Pedaling Toward Possibility: How Your Support Transforms Lives at LBK
At the Lincoln Bike Kitchen (LBK), every donated dollar, bicycle, and hour of volunteer time fuels a powerful mission: to transform lives by making cycling attainable for everyone.
We believe that access to a bicycle can open up a world of opportunity. A bike means transportation to work, school, the grocery store—or simply the freedom to move. For kids, it’s often their first taste of independence. For adults, it can be the key to getting back on their feet.
Thanks to our community’s support, LBK provides refurbished bikes, helmets, locks, and lights free of charge to anyone in need. No cost. No catch. Just the joy and freedom of two wheels.
And the need is growing—fast.
As of May 1, we’ve already donated 750 bicycles in 2025. That’s 40% ahead of last year’s pace, when we hit a record 1,600 bikes donated by the end of the year. At this rate, we’re on track to donate more than 2,000 bikes before December—and every one of them goes to someone in our community who needs it.
Behind each of those numbers is a story. A child who can ride to school instead of walking miles. A parent who can now commute to a new job. A senior who’s regained a sense of mobility and joy.
But with this momentum comes urgency. As demand rises, so does our need for support--bike parts, tools, helmets, locks, tubes, and the energy it takes to keep our shop running.
That’s where you come in.
Whether you give during Give to Lincoln Day, donate a used bicycle (we’re especially in need of 20” bikes for grade-school kids!), or make a recurring contribution, you’re helping us meet real, tangible needs in our city.
At LBK, we’re proud to be powered by community. Your donation does more than keep the lights on—it helps someone in Lincoln get rolling toward a better future.
Thank you for being part of the ride.

Give to Lincoln Day, coordinated by Lincoln Community Foundation, is a time when everyone in Lincoln is asked to make a donation toward the organizations that are critical to the care, support and spirit of our great city.
Every donation between May 1 and May 29 makes a bigger impact because participating nonprofits also receive a proportional share of a $650,000 match fund. | Donate to the Lincoln Bike Kitchen through Give to Lincoln Day | |
